Alimony is an important part of the divorce process. When people separate, the conversation eventually comes to money.  Often, one of the spouses was the primary or even only wage earner in the family. The spouse who earned more is generally the "supporting spouse" and the other is the "dependent spouse".  Alimony is money paid by the supporting spouse for the support and maintenance of the dependent spouse.  Be aware that certain conditions have to exit for spouses to be "supporting" or "dependent" and sometimes, acts of marital misconduct can seriously affect alimony rights.  Please don't hesitate to contact Hinson Family Law if you have questions or would like to schedule a consultation.
